Apple Reportedly Builds ChatGPT-Like App to Test Next-Gen Siri Launching in 2026

Apple is reportedly developing a ChatGPT-like AI application to prepare for the next-generation Siri upgrade, expected to debut in early 2026. According to reports, the internal tool, codenamed Veritas (Latin for “truth”), is designed exclusively for Apple engineers to test advanced generative AI capabilities, refine voice assistant responses, and eliminate errors before the global rollout.

Apple’s Internal AI Tool to Test Next-Gen Siri

The new Veritas AI app functions similarly to leading chatbots like ChatGPT and Google Gemini, allowing multiple chats, query follow-ups, and natural conversations. Apple’s AI division is using this tool to simulate real-world interactions, enhance response generation layers, optimize prompt strategies, and strengthen error-handling logic. While the app won’t be released publicly, it plays a crucial role in shaping Siri’s evolution into a more intelligent, conversational AI assistant.

The upcoming Siri overhaul is powered by Apple’s new AI framework, codenamed Linwood. This system leverages large language models (LLMs) and combines Apple’s in-house Foundation Models with third-party AI technology. Reports suggest Apple may integrate external models from Anthropic Claude or Google Gemini, alongside its proprietary work, to accelerate Siri’s transformation into a smarter, more reliable voice assistant.

Siri’s Revamped Launch Timeline

Originally expected with iOS 18, the redesigned Siri faced delays but is now slated for release in March 2026. Apple also plans a visual redesign of Siri, enhanced AI web search tools similar to Perplexity AI, and expanded integration with AI-powered smart home devices. These updates aim to give users a more personalized, future-ready AI experience across iPhones, iPads, Macs, and HomePods.

Apple in the AI Race

Despite its strong ecosystem, Apple has been trailing behind Google, Samsung, and OpenAI in the fast-moving AI race. To catch up, Apple has reportedly held talks with OpenAI, negotiated with Anthropic, and considered custom Gemini models for iPhones. With the next-gen Siri, Apple hopes to establish itself as a serious contender in AI-powered assistants, blending privacy, innovation, and deep device integration.

If successful, Apple’s ChatGPT-like Siri upgrade could redefine the future of voice assistants, AI chatbots, and smart devices, giving Apple users a more seamless and intelligent digital experience.
