Actress Nivetha Thomas has strongly criticized the spread of AI-generated images that misuse her likeness, labeling the trend “disturbing, unacceptable, and unlawful.” Her statement adds to a growing chorus of celebrities speaking out against digital identity misuse and non-consensual synthetic media.
The issue came to light after the actress discovered fabricated images circulating online, which were based on a recent photograph she had shared on her personal social media. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Thomas expressed her concern, stating: “It has come to my attention that AI-generated images misusing my identity and a recent photograph I shared on my social media are being circulated online. The creation and circulation of such content without consent is deeply disturbing, unacceptable, and unlawful. It constitutes digital impersonation and a serious invasion of my privacy.”
She further warned that legal action could follow, affirming that creating and sharing such AI-generated content without permission “would certainly invite strict action.” Thomas also urged social media platforms to take greater responsibility in creating a safer digital environment by swiftly removing such material and strengthening policies to prevent the exploitation of individuals.
Her response follows a similar statement from fellow actor Sreeleela, who recently cautioned the public against sharing AI-generated images of her. Both emphasized how such content not only spreads misinformation but also violates personal boundaries and consent.
The outcry from public figures is shifting the conversation around AI-generated imagery from a niche concern to a mainstream ethical issue. There is increasing pressure for stronger legislation, improved digital literacy, and greater accountability to ensure technology develops without infringing on personal dignity and rights.
Nivetha Thomas’s stance highlights the urgent need for awareness, regulation, and responsible online behavior as AI tools become more accessible and easier to misuse.
