U.S. electronics retail giant Best Buy is set to expand its Indian technology hub workforce by more than 40% in the coming months, according to a senior company executive. The expansion reflects a broader trend among global corporations establishing operations in India to harness its growing pool of skilled talent.
The company’s first Indian tech centre—also known as a global capability centre (GCC)—was launched in Bengaluru last year. It currently employs around 350 professionals across functions such as data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), and software development. The headcount is expected to rise to between 500 and 550.
Once seen primarily as low-cost outsourcing hubs, GCCs have evolved into strategic centres supporting parent companies in critical areas, including daily operations, finance, research, and product development.
“We will be hiring across functions, with a strong focus on digital and technology roles,” said Nithya Subramanian, Senior Director, Data & AI Centre of Excellence, speaking at an event in Chennai.
Best Buy, best known for selling consumer electronics such as laptops, kitchen appliances, and cameras, is currently recruiting for roles including AI engineers, software engineers, and product managers in India, according to its LinkedIn job listings. The expansion marks a significant step in the company’s global digital transformation strategy.
