Deepak Gupta Assumes Charge as CMD of GAIL

Deepak Gupta has taken charge as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of GAIL, India’s largest state-owned natural gas company. A Mechanical Engineer from Delhi College of Engineering, Gupta brings decades of experience in the energy and infrastructure sector to the role.

He has held several key leadership positions within GAIL, contributing to pipeline expansion, gas marketing, and petrochemical operations. His appointment comes at a time when India is pushing to raise the share of natural gas in its energy mix and strengthen domestic energy security.

As CMD, Gupta is expected to focus on expanding pipeline networks, boosting LNG capabilities, and accelerating clean energy initiatives, including hydrogen and renewable integration. Industry observers believe his technical background and operational experience position him well to guide GAIL through its next phase of growth amid evolving energy transition goals.
