Epstein Files Reference Mira Nair in 2009 Post-Screening Email

Newly released documents related to Jeffrey Epstein include a 2009 email that references acclaimed filmmaker Mira Nair, the mother of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, in connection with a post-screening gathering hosted at the Manhattan home of Ghislaine Maxwell.

The email appears in the latest tranche of records released by the U.S. Department of Justice and was sent to Epstein by well-known publicist Peggy Siegal on October 21, 2009. In the early-morning message, Siegal wrote that she had just left an afterparty at Maxwell’s townhouse following an event linked to Nair’s film Amelia, a biographical drama about aviator Amelia Earhart.

Siegal noted that the gathering was attended by several high-profile figures, including former U.S. President Bill Clinton, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, and Mira Nair. The email also briefly commented on the film’s reception, describing it as muted, before shifting focus to other industry events Siegal planned to attend. There is no indication in the email that Epstein himself attended the event, nor does the document suggest any wrongdoing by Nair.

The reference to Nair is one among hundreds of thousands of documents made public as part of the Justice Department’s latest disclosure tied to Epstein’s crimes and his extensive network of contacts across politics, business, and culture. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said the release includes more than three million pages of records, along with over 2,000 videos and 180,000 images.

According to the Justice Department, the documents were previously withheld while officials conducted additional reviews and redacted sensitive information to protect victims. The disclosures were made under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, passed following sustained public and political pressure for greater clarity around Epstein’s associations.

The newly released material includes references to several prominent individuals, including Prince Andrew, as well as correspondence between Epstein and figures such as Elon Musk. Blanche described the release as the most comprehensive to date but acknowledged that public scrutiny and speculation surrounding the case are likely to continue.

Epstein died by suicide in a New York jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges. Maxwell was later convicted for her role in facilitating his abuse of underage girls.
