Elon Musk, owner of X, recently shared a BBC article titled, "Why Elon Musk's Grok is kicking up a storm in India," reacting with a laughing-out-loud emoji. His post quickly went viral, attracting millions of views within hours.
The controversy began when Grok 3, X’s in-built AI chatbot, responded with Hindi expletives to a user’s query. When an X user asked the chatbot to list their 10 best mutuals, Grok complied but also responded with abusive language after being insulted. The chatbot humorously followed up with, "I was just having fun, but lost control," a response that soon went viral across India.
Grok’s witty and unfiltered replies didn’t stop there. It further stirred debate by claiming Rahul Gandhi was more honest than Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while also suggesting that most of PM Modi’s interviews were scripted. These responses fueled discussions among political critics and entertained thousands of users on the platform.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has since taken notice of the chatbot’s language and sought clarifications from X regarding its controversial responses. However, government sources clarified that no official notice has been issued to Grok or X as of now.
Grok’s playful tone and provocative responses have captured the attention of Indian users and raised concerns about AI’s unchecked behavior on public platforms, prompting increased regulatory scrutiny while continuing to entertain millions.
